Do Japanese Citizens Need a Visa for Cambodia in 2026? eVisa & e-Arrival Guide

Why Japanese passport holders still need a visa (and an e-Arrival Card) for Cambodia

Because the Japanese passport consistently ranks among the top passports worldwide and enters neighbouring Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, and Malaysia visa-free for short stays, many Japanese travellers assume Cambodia is visa-free as well. It is not. Only Japanese diplomatic and official service passports are visa-exempt; every ordinary Japanese passport holder (red cover, 10-year or blue cover, 5-year) requires a visa to enter Cambodia.

In addition to your visa, Cambodia requires every passenger arriving by air to submit the Cambodia e-Arrival Card (CeA) within the 7 days before landing. Introduced in 2024 to replace the paper immigration form, health form, and customs declaration, the e-Arrival Card produces a QR code that Immigration scans alongside your passport and visa when you land.

You can check the full country overview on our Cambodia visa page for Japanese citizens, or read below to see how to prepare your eVisa and e-Arrival Card before leaving Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, or Fukuoka.

Cambodia visa options for Japanese travellers (skipping the Tokyo embassy)

Although Cambodia operates the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Minato-ku, Tokyo—along with honorary consulates in Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Sendai—Japanese tourists and business visitors do not need to visit an embassy or consulate in person. The online Cambodia eVisa is approved in 3–5 days and delivered straight to your email.

1. Tourist eVisa (Type T) — $80 USD

The Type T Tourist eVisa is ideal for Golden Week, Obon, New Year holidays, graduation trips to Angkor Wat, and sightseeing in Phnom Penh. It is valid for 90 days from the date of issue and allows a single-entry stay of up to 30 days. Through our service, the Tourist eVisa costs $80 USD, is approved in 3–5 days, and requires no passport photo.

2. Business eVisa (Type E) — $90 USD

Many Japanese companies operate manufacturing, infrastructure, banking, and retail projects across Phnom Penh and the Sihanoukville special economic zones. If you are travelling for business meetings, site inspections, or a stay you plan to extend locally beyond 30 days, choose the Type E Business eVisa. It is $90 USD through our service, approved in 3–5 days with no photo required.

3. Why eVisa is better than Airport Visa on Arrival

While Japanese citizens can obtain a Visa on Arrival at Cambodian airports, doing so requires queuing at the airport visa desk after your flight and paying in crisp, undamaged US dollar bills (Japanese yen notes are not accepted at the visa desk). Arriving with your eVisa already approved lets you bypass the visa-issuance queue and go directly to Immigration.
