Yes. Even though the Japanese passport is one of the strongest in the world, ordinary Japanese passport holders need both a Cambodian visa and the online Cambodia e-Arrival Card in 2026. Here is what travellers flying from Tokyo (NRT/HND), Osaka (KIX), Nagoya, or Fukuoka need before boarding.

Yes. Ordinary Japanese passport holders are not visa-exempt for Cambodia and must obtain a visa—such as the $80 USD Tourist eVisa or $90 USD Business eVisa—plus file the online Cambodia e-Arrival Card within 7 days before landing at Techo International (KTI), Siem Reap Angkor (SAI), or Sihanoukville (KOS).
Because the Japanese passport consistently ranks among the top passports worldwide and enters neighbouring Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, and Malaysia visa-free for short stays, many Japanese travellers assume Cambodia is visa-free as well. It is not. Only Japanese diplomatic and official service passports are visa-exempt; every ordinary Japanese passport holder (red cover, 10-year or blue cover, 5-year) requires a visa to enter Cambodia.
In addition to your visa, Cambodia requires every passenger arriving by air to submit the Cambodia e-Arrival Card (CeA) within the 7 days before landing. Introduced in 2024 to replace the paper immigration form, health form, and customs declaration, the e-Arrival Card produces a QR code that Immigration scans alongside your passport and visa when you land.
You can check the full country overview on our Cambodia visa page for Japanese citizens, or read below to see how to prepare your eVisa and e-Arrival Card before leaving Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, or Fukuoka.
Although Cambodia operates the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Minato-ku, Tokyo—along with honorary consulates in Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Sendai—Japanese tourists and business visitors do not need to visit an embassy or consulate in person. The online Cambodia eVisa is approved in 3–5 days and delivered straight to your email.
The Type T Tourist eVisa is ideal for Golden Week, Obon, New Year holidays, graduation trips to Angkor Wat, and sightseeing in Phnom Penh. It is valid for 90 days from the date of issue and allows a single-entry stay of up to 30 days. Through our service, the Tourist eVisa costs $80 USD, is approved in 3–5 days, and requires no passport photo.
Many Japanese companies operate manufacturing, infrastructure, banking, and retail projects across Phnom Penh and the Sihanoukville special economic zones. If you are travelling for business meetings, site inspections, or a stay you plan to extend locally beyond 30 days, choose the Type E Business eVisa. It is $90 USD through our service, approved in 3–5 days with no photo required.
While Japanese citizens can obtain a Visa on Arrival at Cambodian airports, doing so requires queuing at the airport visa desk after your flight and paying in crisp, undamaged US dollar bills (Japanese yen notes are not accepted at the visa desk). Arriving with your eVisa already approved lets you bypass the visa-issuance queue and go directly to Immigration.
You can apply for your Cambodia eVisa online in minutes, or check another nationality with our eligibility checker.

Every Japanese citizen flying into Cambodia must complete both the visa and the Cambodia e-Arrival Card. Even if you hold an approved eVisa or a multiple-entry Type E business extension, the e-Arrival Card must be filed before every air arrival into Cambodia.
The card can only be submitted within the 7 days before your arrival date. In 2026, the form asks for your passport details, the flight number of the plane that lands in Cambodia, your Cambodian hotel, your departure date from Cambodia, and your next destination. If you file with us and have not booked onward travel yet, our form lets you say “not booked yet” and we email you to add it later.
When you book your e-Arrival Card for Cambodia through us, you can submit your details well before your 7-day window opens. We hold your application, verify your Romaji passport details, file as soon as your window opens, and email your QR code. Prices per traveller in USD are $20 Standard (within 24 hours), $35 Rush (within 2 hours), and $60 Super Rush (within 15 minutes), with no photo required and free resubmission if Immigration flags a correction.

Most Japanese travellers fly from Tokyo Narita (NRT), Tokyo Haneda (HND), Osaka Kansai (KIX), Nagoya Chubu (NGO), or Fukuoka (FUK) via Bangkok (ANA, JAL, Thai Airways, AirAsia), Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi (Vietnam Airlines, VietJet), Singapore (Singapore Airlines), Seoul Incheon (Korean Air, Asiana), or Taipei. Keep these 2026 arrival rules in mind:
On 9 September 2025, Techo International Airport (KTI) replaced the old Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH). KTI is equipped with automated smart gates for eligible biometric passports.
Travellers visiting Angkor Wat arrive at SAI. Have your printed or digital eVisa and your e-Arrival QR code saved offline before landing.
If you fly Tokyo Haneda → Bangkok → Siem Reap, enter the Bangkok–Siem Reap flight number on your e-Arrival Card, not your flight out of Tokyo.
All Thailand–Cambodia land border crossings (including Poipet/Aranyaprathet) have been closed since 2025. Japanese travellers combining Bangkok and Angkor Wat must fly between Thailand and Cambodia.
Once Immigration scans your passport and e-Arrival QR code at KTI, SAI, or Sihanoukville (KOS), Cambodia emails you a digital v-Pass instead of placing a traditional ink arrival stamp in your passport.
Travelling as a family or group from Japan? Every passenger needs their own visa and arrival QR code; we file a card for every traveller in a party, babies included, because each one travels on their own passport. Ready to sort your QR code? You can start your e-Arrival application online today.
