For most Aussies that means mid-week of the week before flying.

Is the 7-day window measured from departure or arrival?

Arrival, in Cambodian local time. For Aussies on overnight flights from Sydney or Melbourne (board Wednesday evening, land in Cambodia Thursday morning), the window opens 7 days before Thursday — not 7 days before Wednesday. Count from the day you actually land at KTI, SAI or KOS, not the day you take off. Perth travellers on same-day afternoon arrivals have a cleaner mental model since departure and arrival are the same calendar day.

What happens if I try to submit more than 7 days early?

Accepted Answer

The portal either returns a polite wait-message ('please submit within 7 days of arrival') or accepts the data but never issues the QR code email. Some Aussies misread the silent acceptance as a successful submission. There is no benefit to submitting early — the kiosk only reads the most recent submission for your passport — so wait until you are inside the window and file then. The kiosk does not care when you filed, only that you did.

Can I fill the e-Arrival at the airport before boarding?

Technically yes, but the airport-WiFi trap means it often does not work cleanly. Airport WiFi is patchy, the confirmation email may not arrive before you board, and once you are airborne you cannot retrieve it. The boarding announcement and the kiosk submit step do not mix well. The rule is fill from home, not from the gate. If you have genuinely forgotten until you reach the gate, board the flight and use the paper-form fallback on arrival — it is slower but cleaner than a half-submitted online form.

What if my flight changes after I have already submitted?

Re-submit. The kiosk reads the most recent submission for your passport number, and there is no penalty for re-filing inside the 7-day window. Update the flight number and arrival date, hit submit, and the new QR code arrives in 5–15 minutes. What happens if I forget the e-Arrival entirely and arrive without a QR code?

You will not be refused entry. Cambodian Immigration offers a paper-form fallback at the arrival hall — you fill the same 14 fields by hand on a clipboard and hand it to an officer. It adds 20–30 minutes at KTI Phnom Penh on a normal-volume flight, 10–20 minutes at SAI Siem Reap, and rarely a real wait at KOS Sihanoukville. There is no fee or penalty, just the extra time at the wrong end of an overnight flight.

Day 5 or Day 6 is the sweet spot for risk management. Day 1 (the day of flight) is technically allowed but leaves no margin for the email arriving late, a re-submit, or an airport-WiFi outage. Day 7 is allowed but increases the chance of the email being buried by the time you fly.

Should I submit the e-Arrival before or after my eVisa is approved?

Accepted Answer

After. The eVisa approval is what gives you a confirmed accommodation address, a confirmed visa class (tourism or business), and the issue date that lines up with your trip. Submitting the e-Arrival before the eVisa is issued risks an accommodation or visit-purpose mismatch the kiosk will flag on arrival. The standard sequence: lodge the eVisa first (3 business days to issue), then the e-Arrival inside the last 7 days before flight.
