The Cambodia-Vietnam land border is open in 2026, and your US eVisa is accepted at the designated crossings. The main ones are Bavet, on the Ho Chi Minh City highway and the busiest by far; Kaam Samnor, on the Mekong river route from Chau Doc; and the Mekong Delta southern crossings — Prek Chak (paired with Ha Tien on the Vietnam side), Phnom Den (paired with Tinh Bien), and the Tinh Bien crossing itself. The eVisa is the same single-entry document whether you arrive by land or by air: valid three months from issue and good for a 30-day stay. None of this is affected by the Thailand land border, which is a separate, closed border. The safe default is to confirm your exact crossing is eVisa-eligible before you build a route around it, and to carry a printed copy of your eVisa PDF when you go.
If you are stitching Cambodia and Vietnam together on one trip, the land border between them is open and well-traveled in 2026 — which is exactly the opposite of the Thailand side. That matters because the two situations get confused constantly. All seven Thailand-Cambodia land crossings have been closed since June 2025, but that closure is its own border and has nothing to do with Vietnam. The Cambodia-Vietnam crossings are running normally, and an American holding a Cambodia eVisa can use them.
The catch is that "the Vietnam land border" is not one line you can cross anywhere. Cambodia honors the electronic visa only at a defined list of designated crossings, and showing up at an undesignated track with a valid eVisa can still get you turned back. The good news is the list is short, predictable, and covers every route a US traveler would realistically take — the highway bus, the Mekong boat, and the Delta back roads.
I head the Cambodia Airports & Arrivals desk here, and I track these land crossings as closely as the airport halls. This guide names every open Cambodia-Vietnam crossing on the eVisa-eligible list, says where each one actually takes you, and walks through how your eVisa validity holds up when you arrive by land. When you are ready, you can apply and have your eVisa as a printable PDF before you book the bus. For the full picture of the Cambodia visa for US citizens, our main guide pulls every piece together, and our overview of which Cambodia land borders accept the eVisa maps these Vietnam posts alongside the Laos crossing.
Two crossings carry almost all American overland traffic between Vietnam and Cambodia. One is a road, one is a river, and between them they cover the way most US travelers actually move between Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh. Both accept the eVisa in 2026.
Bavet, in Cambodia's Svay Rieng province, sits opposite Moc Bai on the Vietnam side and is the workhorse of the whole border. It is on the main highway from Ho Chi Minh City and the crossing every direct Saigon-to-Phnom Penh bus runs through — roughly a six-to-seven-hour day end to end. Your eVisa is accepted here: you step off the bus, present your printed PDF and passport at the Cambodian post, and rejoin the bus on the far side. As the busiest land gateway in the country, Bavet is also where touts try to sell an unnecessary "stamp fee" — your eVisa is already paid, so nothing extra is owed at the window.
If you take the river instead of the road — the Mekong fast-boat or slow-boat route between Chau Doc in Vietnam and Phnom Penh — you cross at Kaam Samnor, opposite Vinh Xuong on the Vietnam side. This is the scenic version of the same trip, and the eVisa is accepted at the river post exactly as it is at Bavet. The boat operator handles the staged stops on each bank; you keep your printed eVisa and passport handy and present them when called. It is a slower, more relaxed day than the highway bus, and for a lot of Americans it is the highlight of the crossing rather than a chore.

Of the two, Bavet is the one to plan around if you want certainty — it is the most predictable overland route into the country and the one with the most frequent buses. Our full guide to crossing into Cambodia from Vietnam at Bavet on the eVisa walks the day step by step, and our walkthrough of the Vietnam-to-Cambodia land border at Bavet covers the bus day, the queue, and the touts in depth.

Beyond the two big ones, the Mekong Delta has a cluster of designated crossings that matter if your route runs through the south of Vietnam rather than straight up the highway. These see lighter long-haul traffic, but they are on the eVisa-eligible list and they open up routes the Bavet bus never touches — particularly the run between the Vietnamese coast and Cambodia's southern beaches.
Prek Chak, in Cambodia's Kampot province, is paired with Ha Tien on the Vietnam side, and it is the crossing that connects the Mekong Delta coast to Cambodia's south — Kep, Kampot, and on toward Sihanoukville. For Americans coming up from Phu Quoc or the Vietnamese coast and heading for Cambodia's beaches, this is the natural land route, and the eVisa is accepted here. It is far quieter than Bavet, with fewer buses and a smaller post, so the thing to plan is your onward transport on the Cambodia side rather than the visa itself.
Phnom Den, in Takeo province, is paired with the Tinh Bien crossing on the Vietnam side near Chau Doc, and together they form the overland back route between the western Delta and southern Cambodia. This is the road alternative to the Kaam Samnor river crossing if you are coming from the same Chau Doc area but would rather take a bus than a boat. The eVisa is accepted at the designated post, and the same rule applies as everywhere else on this border — your visa is prepaid, so any "processing fee" pitched at the window is not a real charge.
A short, practical note on all three Delta crossings: they are designated and eVisa-eligible, but they run far fewer scheduled services than Bavet. If your plan depends on one of them, confirm the bus or boat connection on the day before you commit, and always carry your eVisa printed. A remote southern post is exactly where a dead phone battery and no paper copy turns a simple stamp into a long, hot problem.

The single most reassuring fact about the Cambodia-Vietnam border is that your eVisa does not change because you cross by land. It is the exact same document you would use at an airport: single entry, valid for three months from its issue date, and good for a 30-day stay once you are stamped in. The crossing method has no bearing on what the visa is or what it lets you do.
Two parts of that validity trip Americans up, so worth being precise. First, the three-month window is the time you have to actually enter — issue the eVisa, then cross any time inside those three months. Second, the 30-day clock starts at the stamp, not at issue, so a land crossing on day 80 of your validity window still gives you a full 30 days from the day you walk across. Plan the entry date around the three-month window, and the stay around the stamp.
The part that genuinely matters for a Vietnam-Cambodia trip is single entry. Your eVisa admits you once. If you cross from Vietnam into Cambodia, then later want to head back into Vietnam and return to Cambodia again, that second Cambodia entry needs a fresh visa — the old tourist auto-extension that used to top up a stay ended in November 2025, so there is no automatic workaround. Our guide to single-entry re-entry after a Vietnam or Laos leg walks through exactly how to handle a loop without getting stuck at the border.

A land crossing is slower and more manual than an airport hall, but with the eVisa already approved it is simple. Here is the sequence I see Americans move through at Bavet, Kaam Samnor, and the Delta posts — the steps are the same at all of them.
